What I do.

I create AND I destroy! It's the classic yin and yang! You and I, we are alike in this way and both exercise this power each and every day.

Yes, sometimes we have to end the existence of one thing, to create something new from the useless fragments of what it used to be. But that doesn't mean it can't become something else, something new! I'm willing to bet, you've endured some level of mental suffering in your life. Maybe, at the time you felt it might destroy you, and in a way, it did! It destroyed who you once were.

Because of that destruction, you have become someone new! If you are reading this, then you are human! Well, except the search engine spiders and bots that read the entire internet for relevant content, they aren't human. But you, with your conscious thought and the ability to create AND destroy. You my friend are human. Destruction happens, even to us. BUT this doesn't mean our existence has ended. It only means the existence of who we used to be, has ended.

This website is about creating, destroying and the process of each. The joy, the frustration, the peaks and valleys of the process. Choosing a creative life is a tough decision, and earning a paycheck is an even harder one! But, there are ways to keep your creative well from running dry, and more importantly ways to make money while staying fulfilled at the same time.

Over the years I have immersed myself in many types of employment, but I've always tried to stay on a creative path. Let me start by saying, it hasn't been easy.

Here's the thing though! Being creative, isn't meant to be easy.

The balance between living a creative life, and paying the bills can wear you down, and by the time we sit down to be creative, it's gone! That creative advantage that once kept us sharp and edgy, has become dull and flat. The stress, the work, the bills have all depleated the wonder. That fountain of mystical creativity, has somehow dissapeared!

Let's get it back! Let's go chase it down!

But, before we get started on this journey together, I wanted to take a moment to share a little bit of my history with you, and who I am. Picture one of those adhesive name tags you wear at seminars, except this one's digital, and not just on my shirt. This baby is all over the internet!

Hello, my name is George Ingram Jr.

Over the course of my life, I have held many types of employment. When I left home for the first time, I went directly into the military. That was where I learned how to truly cook. Yes, it may have been cooking for hundreds and hundreds of people, but the basics are the basics, only scaled down a little bit.

After leaving the Navy, I worked in a handful of kitchens as a line cook. After realizing the hours were terrible and it was hard to support myself on a wage I can count on seven to eight fingers, I moved on.

Driven with a desire to be more creative, I found a job as a screen printer. I spent over six years screen printing on more materials than I can remember. It was a good gig, but again, it just didn't pay the bills! So, I moved on yet again.

Next, I did a very short stint as a car salesman. Not my proudest day, but it did give me a lot more empathy for those men and women who choose this line of work. After realizing car sales is not a steady stream of income, I left the dealership and looked again.

That was when I landed a decent paying job, unfortunatley it wasn't a creative one. It was hard work, and it was working the weekend, but I stayed for thirteen years. Through those years, I took drawing and art classes, enrolled in some programming classes and went to school for Graphic Design to satisfy me creative itch.

After spending years moving boxes, I knew I needed to spread my creative wings. I took a leap and interviewed for a job in print sales. I got hired, and initially I hoped it was a foot in the door to start my Graphic Design career. I could not have been more wrong! It could have been the company, maybe it was the job itself, or maybe both, but my life work balance was the worst I have ever experienced. After eight months, I was not willing to accept the sacrafices they expected of me, and I resigned.

Driven by money to pay my bills yet again, I applied for a Management position at the same warehouse I had left eight months before. After three rigorous interviews, with six high profile managers including the AGM and several Operational Managers, they offered me management! This was not an easy feat, and I am very proud of this accomplishment! For the next year, I spent my 45 hour weekends (Saturday, Sunday, Monday) working and managing a department of over thirty people. I enjoyed the role, enjoyed all of my hard working associates, but the time I spent working those 15 hour days, wasn't a fair trade for some money in my pocket.

Don't get me wrong, the money was good. But I can chase money elsewhere! I can't chase the time lost with my family. Once that's gone, there is no getting it back!

So here I am, taking the biggest leap of all! Bigger risk, bigger reward! I'm armed with half a plan, sharp words and a whole bunch of creative intent. Come join me!

Let's go make some stuff, break some stuff, and talk about being creative!
